Dear Westmount Staff and Parents/Guardians,

This afternoon, Education Minister LaGrange and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Hinshaw, confirmed the return to school for K-12 students on Monday, January 10th.  Important information related to the announcement can be accessed at: https://www.alberta.ca/k-12-learning-during-covid-19.aspx#jumplinks-0

Our staff have been working hard this week to prepare for the anticipated return to in-person learning for students. All health and safety protocols will be in place including masks (K-12 and all staff), hand sanitation, social distancing and extra cleaning at each campus.

The first shipments of rapid test kits and medical grade masks will arrive in schools next week. We do not know the exact arrival date at this time. Each campus will inform staff and families how and when the masks and test kits will be distributed. Information about reporting absenteeism, COVID cases and requirements for individuals who test positive for COVID-19 will be communicated in the next few days.

Superintendents across the province are scheduled to meet with the Deputy Minister of Education and representatives of Alberta Health Services tomorrow afternoon.  I will forward all relevant information from that meeting later tomorrow or Friday.

Thank you for your continuing support in helping our schools maintain safe learning environments.

Joe Frank

Superintendent
