Dear Grade seven families,
The grade seven vaccine program at Westmount is a catch-up program only this year and is only for those current grade seven students for whom we already have consent forms, who received their first dose of the vaccines noted below, in grade six. Vaccines are not routinely offered in Grade 7. Click here to see the Routine Immunization Schedule for Alberta.
Students that attended in-person learning in grade 6 (2020-2021) last year were offered:
- routine Hepatitis B and
- Human Papillomavirus
These are two dose series. They were started but unfortunately not completed last year due to students going to online learning and quarantines. This was also the case for most grade 6 students last year throughout Calgary.
We are doing are best to complete these vaccines for these students in a timely matter. I have received many calls and emails as students have different situations.
If your child received the first dose of the above-mentioned vaccines in grade 6 and if we have the signed consent form from parents, we can proceed. It is still valid and we can complete these vaccines. Recent communications were to notify parents of this program on Dec. 2nd, 2021 as we cannot call every parent.
What about Children Who Were Online Learners Last Year?
Communications were also sent to address many questions about children that were on online learners last year and never started the HBV and HPV vaccines. Unfortunately, we are awaiting direction for those students. Health Link (811) cannot book these students at this time. Please stay tuned for more information; we will update you as soon as we can.
