Dear Grade 7-12 families,

The information below explains, in detail, how learning will carry on based on the information from Alberta Education.

Presently Alberta Education has mandated all grade 7-12 students in the Calgary area to engage in online learning for the period of May 3rd – May 14th (this may be subject to change and we will notify families should this occur).

Your daily schedule is much like your in-school schedule. You will be expected to attend all of your classes online with your camera on (If you have a concern with this, please discuss it with your teacher(s)). Attendance will be taken in each class, assignments and assessments will be given, and grades will be updated in PowerSchool. Students Services (TLAs, Counsellors, and Learning Strategists) will continue to be available but will be virtual. PowerLearn and your WCS-g email will be the forms of communication used, so it is important you know how to access these.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, reach out to your SOURCE teacher, your Student Services person, or your individual teachers as needed. We are here to support you in your learning journey.

Student Daily Schedule

Students’ daily schedules will mirror the regular school day (including option classes).  Therefore you will have classes from 8:30 am-3:20 pm daily. (8:30 am – 2:00 pm Friday).

Virtual Classes & Attendance

During your scheduled class time, teachers will offer a variety of learning opportunities. Teachers will be present (virtually) at the beginning of each class time via Google Meet and will provide expectations for your class time. Attendance will be tracked, therefore you must attend classes virtually like you would in person.

Cameras need to be on during all virtual meetings. If you have a concern with this, please discuss it with your teacher(s).

Assignments & Assessments

Assignments, work, and assessments will be available through PowerLearn (with a link to Google Classroom, as applicable). It is your responsibility to keep up with the work assigned and be present, with camera on, during virtual classes. Some assessments may need to be supervised and submitted by a parent/guardian (e.g. Unit Finals).

Note marks are not “frozen” at what they are now.

Communication

Teachers will use PowerLearn and WCS-g emails to communicate with students. It is expected that students will use and check these on a regular basis. If you need your password, please contact:

All staff also have a WCS-g.com email address. If you do not know a particular staff member’s email address, just start typing in their name and it will appear as an option to click and choose.
