Dear Westmount Community,
It is with great pride and pleasure that I announce that one of our staff members, Ms. Christine Avey, is the recipient of a national award this year!
The FOCUS! Change Climate Change – Teacher’s Excellence Award for Environmental Education and Communication awards were announced on June 2, 2020, and, of all of the nominations submitted from across Canada, Christine is the winner of this award for 2020. It is a tremendous achievement! In addition to the much deserved recognition, Christine will receive a cheque for $5000, and Westmount will also receive a cheque in the amount of $2000.
In the letter sent to Christine on June 2, the awards committee wrote the following:
“The Board of Directors was extremely impressed by your range of initiatives and achievements…we were especially impressed by the broad range of pedagogical activities and innovations as well as the extraordinary level of knowledge sharing with teachers and governments and direct engagement with local businesses to change daily habits. We sincerely wish to applaud you for your outstanding contributions to environmental education in Canada and for the life-long impact you are making on the students and fellow teachers at Westmount Charter School. We are grateful to have such extraordinary teachers such as yourself nurturing the climate change leaders of the future.”
There will be a virtual presentation of the award in a couple of weeks. Please join me in congratulating Christine.
Joe Frank, Superintendent
