On Wednesday, May 1, 2019, Albertans are invited to take part in Hats On! For Mental Health Day and wear a hat to raise awareness of the importance of positive mental health.

We encourage Westmount students to participate by wearing special hats in support of the mental health of children and youth.

One in three Canadians will experience a mental illness or a substance use disorder in their lifetime. Yet stigma remains a barrier that prevents many from seeking or offering help. Speaking openly about mental health and providing a safe, barrier-free environment to do so is key to reducing stigma.

The focus on mental health promotion continues during Mental Health Week, which is being held this year from May 6 to 10. Students who are mentally healthy are resilient and better able to learn, achieve success and build healthy relationships.

The Alberta Teachers Association and the Canadian Mental Health Association, with support from Global Television, are raising awareness of the mental health of children and youth.
