Westmount provides an excellent foundation for any student wishing to pursue fine arts opportunities.
Fine Arts are integrated into the elementary curriculum, with music, visual arts and performing arts all finding their way into a number of student projects and presentations. In addition, we have a music specialist in elementary grades, an elementary choir, and a band program available beginning in grade 5.
For more information about the music program, click here to go to the Westmount Music Association page. Westmount's Band program continues all the way to grade 12, and there is a String Orchestra available to mid/high students.
In addition to drama classes for grade 6-12 students, the Summerstock program produces open-air musical theatre productions during the first two weeks of August at Olympic Plaza in downtown Calgary. The 2008 production was Grease, which ran from July 28 to August August 9th. Previous shows were:
Visual Arts students have access to Art (grade 6-12) and Comm Tech (grades 9-12) classes.
Dance is offered as a formal class for Mid-grade students. In 2007, dance lessons have been offered to elementary students as a noon-hour club, run by mid-high dance students with staff supervision.
A number of Westmount graduates are furthering their studies in fine arts at the University of Victoria and at the Alberta College of Art and Design.
