Westmount Charter School has been providing gifted programming since the 1996-1997 school year. One of the most important mandates for Alberta's Charter Schools is to share their learnings with the broader educational community, so in that spirit, please find below a number of links and an invitation to attend a conference we are hosting this fall:

Westmount Charter School's AISI Projects
After a successful three-year cycle supported by the Alberta Initiative for School Improvement (AISI), Westmount's Professional Partners program concluded in 2006. This innovative professional development program for teachers, our AISI Cycle II project, was designed to have our teachers actually live out the idea of continuous and active learning. Many of the learnings gained through our Professional Partners program have informed our current Professional Learning Communities.
Our cycle III (2006-2009) AISI project, designed to build a strong tri-partnership between students, teachers and parents to address the issue of gifted student underachievement, has also reached a successful conclusion. For the Cycle III synopsis, click here.
We have now embarked on our cycle IV AISI project, a three year long, multi-faceted project entitled "Building an Engaged Learning Community". An overview of this project will be posted soon. For a description of the Literacy Framework that is being developed via this project, click here.
Alberta's Charter public schools are autonomous public schools of choice which provide education in an innovative way. Teaching staff are Alberta-certificated teachers. Each charter school is designed to implement innovations in the organization and delivery of education, which results in improvements in student learning.
